What is SMPS  and what is its use?

SMPS is a device or component that is in the print of our computer system, with the help of which our entire computer system takes power. SMPS ki full form Switch mode power supply hai.


Types of SMPS

There are three types of SMPS

  1. AT (Advance Technology)

  2. ATX (Advance Technology Extended)

  3. BTX ( Balance Technology Extended)


AT (Advance Technology)



Advance Technology , these are Old generation SMPS  used in old generation of computer system 12 pin power connector.


ATX (Advance Technology Extended)


Advanced Technology Extended These SMPS are currently used in P4 Dual Core and core 2 Duo computer system  20 pin power Connectors.

BTX (Balanced Technology Extended)


Balanced Technology extended these SMPS are presently used in Intel celeron, Intel core i3, Intel core i5, Intel core i7 and A.M.D Computer system 24 pin power Connector.



All three types of SMPS can only be identified by its power connector. 12 pin AT( Advance technology extended) SMPS, 20 Pin ATX (Advance technology extended)SMPS, 24 Pin BTX (Balanced technology extended)  SMPS

SMPS ON/OFF Switch

This button is used for on/off the electricity, power off SMPS. if the SMPS button is off the voltage does not pass to internal peripherals of the computer system.

Power port 

This port is used to connect power Cable to the computer system. So that we can provide the electricity power to the computer system.

Computer software is a part of computer systems. Different types of instruction have to be followed to run the computer. We can only see the software and work on it. Software is made by looking at the work of currently.


After the computer is on the software is first loading into RAM and executed to the central processing unit.

System software

It is a group of one or more programs.system software the software that manages and controls hardware. It includes the default program of the computer which handles the basic functions of the computer. The system takes the responsibility of simultaneously controlling and integrating different components hardware through software. The main function of system software is to manage the parts  of hardware



Application software  

  Effectively, if the user is interacting directly with a piece of software it is application software. For example, Microsoft Word or Excel are application software, as are common web browsers such as Firefox or Google Chrome.

It also includes the category of mobile apps, including communication apps such as WhatsApp or games such as Candy Crush Saga. There are also app versions of common services such as those providing weather or transport information or apps for customers to interact with companies.

Application software is distinct from system software, which refers to the software that actually keeps the systems running such as the operating system, computational science software, game engines, industrial automation, and software as a service applications.

Instead of interacting with the user, the system software interacts with other software or hardware.

The full form of ROM is Read Only Memory. This is a Non volatile memory. ROM data can only be read, it cannot be read. The command given to start a computer is saved in this memory. It is cheaper than RAM.

  1. MROM (MASK READ ONLY MEMORY)

  2. PROM (PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY)

  3. EPROM (ERASABLE READ ONLY MEMORY)

  4. EEPROM (ELECTRONICALLY ERASABLE READ ONLY MEMORY)

  • Secondary Computer Memory

Secondary computer memory is called that in which data and software are saved permanently. Secondary memory data remains saved even when the computer is off compared to primary memory.


Types of Secondary Memory

  1. HDD(Hard Disk Drive)

  2. SSD(Solid State Drive)

  3. FDD(Floppy Disk Drive)

  4. Pendrive

  5. CD or DVD(Compact Disk or Digital Versatile Disk)
